Qualifications & Requirements

These documents must be made available before approval. It is essential that all necessary paperwork is submitted to ensure a smooth and efficient approval process. Delays can occur if any required documentation is missing. Please review the list of required documents and ensure their availability well in advance of the submission deadline.

To operate as a driver with Jimbo & Co Transport, the following documentation is required:

  • Drivers License: Ensure a valid and current drivers license specific to the class of vehicle operated.

  • Social Security Card: A copy of the social security card for identity verification.

  • Valid DOT Physical: This must include both the long form and the certificate. The examination must be completed by a certified medical examiner.

  • Registration for Equipment: All equipment used for transport must be properly registered.

  • Valid DOT Inspection: An inspection report, accompanied by a paid receipt, must be provided, and it should be within the last six months.

  • Proof of Insurance: Documentation must show coverage with Jimbo & Company Transport, including Unladen Liability Insurance with a minimum limit of 1 million dollars.

Ensure that all documents are up-to-date and compliant with the regulations to maintain eligibility for driving with Jimbo & Co Transport.

To be considered for a position as an independent contractor with Jimbo & Co Transport, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of over-the-road commercial driving experience.

  • At least 25 years of age.

  • No more than 3 moving violations in the past 5 years, or no more than 2 moving violations in the last year.

  • No indications of disregard for public safety. Habitual offender convictions will not be accepted.

  • Clean record with no driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • No drug or alcohol test failures or refusals.

  • No pre-employment drug test failures.

  • A valid passport is required for those transporting shipments into Canada.

  • A smartphone (Apple or Android) is necessary for communication and navigation during trips.

Tow Away Truck Requirements

As an owner operator, you will need to provide a properly registered and inspected 1 ton or 3/4 ton diesel pickup truck with a 6-8 foot bed, 2008 or newer (older vehicles are welcome upon Jimbo & Company Transport approval). Additionally, the following equipment is necessary:

  • Class III receiver hitch rated at 10,000 pounds, positioned 20" to 22" from the ground.

  • 5th wheel & gooseneck rated for at least 18,000 pounds.

  • Mud flaps behind rear wheels and full length on the bumper.

  • Fuel tank or tool boxes can be no more than 2 inches above the top of the bed rails.

  • Electric brake control.

  • Spare battery with wing nuts on top and box.

  • Straps for battery box and propane tank cover.

Specifications for Truck and Equipment

  • Bed and Bumper Plug Connections: Ensure compatibility and functionality for optimal performance.

  • Hitch Specifications:

    • Adjustable height for both 2 5/16 and 2-inch hitches, rated for 10,000 lbs.

    • No Hollow Shanks permitted for safety and durability.

    • Pintle Hitch required for secure towing.

  • Safety Equipment:

    • Mounted Fire Extinguisher and Safety Triangles must be present and accessible.

  • Tools Required:

    • 4-way Lug Wrench: A torque wrench is necessary when using aluminum wheels.

    • Hitch Pins and Screwdrivers: Both Phillips and flathead types are to be included.

  • Truck Specifications:

    • Must be home state plated at 26,000 pounds.

    • The truck must be from 2008 or newer, or must receive prior approval from Jimbo & Company Transport Staff.

  • Insurance:

    • A minimum of 1 million dollars in unladen liability insurance is required.

  • CDL A Drivers:

    • A scale ticket is required, indicating a full fuel tank.

  • Miscellaneous Supplies:

    • Zip Ties or Ball Bungees should be on hand.

    • Chains (Snow Chains): Required for pickups, permitted on highways from October 15 through April 15 for safety considerations due to snow, ice, or other hazardous conditions prevalent in the western states.

All equipment and specifications must be adhered to for safe and effective transportation operations.

Flatbed Requirements

Here are some basic requirements for drivers and equipment at Jimbo & Co Transport:

Driver Requirements

  • CDL A Recommended

  • Experience: Minimum of 100,000 miles of safe towing experience

  • MVR & PSP Records: Clean driving record is mandatory

Equipment Requirements

  • Vehicle: 1 ton dually or larger

  • Trailer: 53′ flatbed trailer with a center rail system

Haul & Tow Specifications

  • Deck Length: Minimum of 22′ long (25′ or longer is preferred)

  • Deck Height: 32″-36″ tall at step, located behind the rear axle (the lower the better)

  • Age of Equipment: Model year 2008 or newer (unless approved by Jimbo & Co)

  • Accessories: Must include center track, ball stands, wheel bonnets, ramps, etc. 


Drive-Away Requirements

Here are some of the basic requirements for Drive-Away

2 years of driving Commercial over the road experience

  • 25 Years Of Age
